With twenty-eight verses, Surah Al-Jinn is the 72nd Surah in the current compilation of the Qur’an. As implied by the name, the Surah revolves around Jinn which refer to spiritual beings that are invisible to the human eye. As stated in the Quran, people are from earth, whereas Jinns (demons) are made of blazing fire. Allah (SWT) says:
“And the jinn We created before from scorching fire” Surah Al-Hijr 15:27.
Jinn too were created to worship the one and only God. Allah (SWT) says:
“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me” Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:56.
When was Surah Al-jinn revealed?
Over three years prior to the Hijrah, this surah was revealed. After Suratul A’raf and before Surah Yasin, Surah Al- Jinn was revealed in Makkah, making it the fortieth Surah to be revealed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
What is Al-Jinn in islam?
The word “jinn” (الجن in Arabic) refers to supernatural creatures in the Islamic religion that are believed to be made of smokeless fire. In the Quran, jinn are mentioned as a separate creation from humans, with their own free will and the ability to choose between right and wrong.
What can we learn from Surah Al-Jinn?
The following are significant lessons Muslims can learn from this Surah:
- The Jinn were fascinated when they first heard the Quran and decided to convert to Islam.
- Speaking about Allah demands the utmost regard and attention.
- If individuals stood firm on the straight path, Allah would bless them in this life.
- Anyone who forgets to remember Allah will experience great sorrow at the hands of Allah.
- The Masjid should only be used to worship Allah; no other deities should be honored there.
- Outside of Allah’s Will, no one not even the Prophet has the ability to harm anybody or impart knowledge to them.
- The Fire of Jahannam (hell) will be the eternal punishment of anybody who disobeys Allah and His Messenger (PBUH).
- Only those of the Messengers whom Allah selects may be given permission to access His knowledge since He is the All-Knower, safeguarding the revelation from manipulation.
Benefits of reading Surah Al-Jinn
These are some of the benefits of reading this Surah:
- The Holy Prophet (SAW) and the reciter of Surah Jinn shall be together on the Day of Resurrection, according to a narration from Imam Bakir (RA).
- Surah Jinn also offers protection against Jin.
- It also provides protection against and people’s bad intentions and doings.
- Surah Jinn can be used to combat the harmful effect of Satan or demonic spirits.
As we have learned in this article, Surah Al-Jinn can be very instructive and beneficial. Although it is not necessary to learn it by heart, it is always helpful to read it. Naturally, every Muslim wants to shield themselves against the evil spirits and Jinns and that can be simply done by reciting this Surah.
