The 56th chapter of the Quran is titled Surah Al-Waqi’ah. Containing 96 verses, Al-Waqi’ah is a Makki Surah. It is called “The Inevitable” or “The Event” in English. The word Al- Waqi’ah in the first verse is where the Surah derives its name from. Allah (SWT) says: “Izaa waqa’atil waaqi’ah” (Transliteration from Arabic) which translates to “When the Inevitable Event takes place”. So, what does this term mean? What does Al-Waqiah mean?
The first verse of the chapter is where its name is taken from. In Arabic, Al Waqiah means something is certain to happen, there is no escape. Hence, it refers to the one certain and inevitable event: The Day of Judgment. The following verses describe the resurrection and afterlife.

- Remembering the afterlife and thus doing our best to work for it.
- Being reassured and motivated by Allah’s rewards and blessings for the righteous
people. - Reflecting and learning to be grateful.
- It is claimed to bring prosperity and money. There is no proof as to this specific
benefit nonetheless. However, it is always a good idea to read chapters of the Quran.
