This is a common question: If Muslims believe in Jesus, do they believe in the Bible too? Let’s clarify what Islam says.
What is the Injeel According to Islam?
Islam teaches that Allah revealed a divine book called the Injeel to Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him). Muslims believe the original Injeel was a true revelation from God, just like the Torah given to Moses and the Zabur given to David.
The Difference Between the Injeel and Today’s Bible
However, Muslims also believe that the current Bible is not the same as the original Injeel. Over time, the Bible has gone through many translations and edits, and Islam teaches that its original message has been altered or lost.
In the Quran, Allah says: “We gave him the Gospel (Injeel)…” (Quran 5:46) This verse acknowledges that Jesus received divine revelation, but Muslims are instructed to follow the Quran as the final and preserved word of God.
How Muslims View Christians and Jews
Muslims respect Christians and Jews as “People of the Book” and are encouraged to speak with them kindly and respectfully. While Islam doesn’t recognize the Bible as it exists today as a reliable scripture, it respects the original revelation behind it.
Why Muslims Follow the Quran Instead
This distinction is important: Muslims don’t reject Jesus or his original message. In fact, belief in Isa and the scriptures revealed to him is part of a Muslim’s faith. But they follow the Quran as the ultimate source of guidance.
